We are having a fundraising event next week. We meet the criteria for an exemption and so do not need a licence to serve alcohol. Are there rules about how to do this?

- Yes there are rules about the sale of alcohol at an exempt event.
- You will need to check the law in your state or territory but there are some common rules such as:
- alcohol must be sold by someone over 18 years of age;
- alcohol must be served in an open container and it must be drunk at the event;
- the sale of alcohol should not create an unsafe environment;
- alcohol must not be supplied or sold in a manner that promotes quick or excessive drinking; and
- alcohol must not be supplied or sold to:
- disorderly or intoxicated patrons or
- to children.
