Is there a time limit on tariff concession orders?

I have purchased some goods but they haven’t shipped yet. Is it too late to apply for a tariff concession order?

  • Once you submit an application for a tariff concession order Customs will assess it to make sure it is satisfactory. If it is it will be processed within 28 days of when it was received.
  • Details of the application will be published in the Commonwealth of Australia Tariff Concessions Gazette to give manufacturers of substitutable goods an opportunity to object to it.
  • Any objections to the application must be made within 50 days of the date when the application was published in the gazette.
  • a final decision on the application must be made by Customs within 150 days of the date when the application was published in the gazette.
  • When the tariff concession order is granted its ‘start date’ is the date the application was first received.
  • This means that goods imported on or after that start date are covered by the tariff concession order.
  • If your goods arrive in Australia after the application was submitted but before the concession was granted you will need to pay the full duty. You can ask for this payment to be refunded once your concession order is granted.
