I have just purchased a laptop from an international seller on eBay. Is there anything I need to do to get it through customs?

- Goods under that are under $1,000.00 have no duties, taxes or charges to pay.
- If your laptop was over $1,000.00 you will need to fill out an import declaration form and pay the correct duties, taxes and a processing charge.
- To lodge an import declaration you must complete an import declaration form and hand it to Customs. Call 1300 363 263 to find out your nearest Customs and Border Protection office.
- Import declaration forms are available at the counter or at www.customs.gov.au/site/page4288.asp.
- The following documents will also be needed:
- Bill of Lading/Air Waybill;
- commercial documents (invoices);
- evidence of your identity;
- permits or approvals (for the goods); and
- other relevant documents.
- These documents must be kept for 5 years after you lodge your declaration.
- Alternatively you may use a licenced customs broker who will complete the declaration on your behalf using information you provide and who is able to lodge it electronically.
