Can I ask my employer to make adjustments to facilitate my return to work?

return to work and am fully capable of performing my old duties but due to psychological trauma from the accident I am no longer able to drive a car to and from work. I have requested that my manager allow me to work from home full time in order to facilitate my immediate return to work. He is reluctant to do this. What are my options?

  • Employers are obliged to make reasonable adjustments to the workplace to allow injured employees to return to work.
  • However whether an adjustment is reasonable will depend on each individual circumstance.
  • If your role is client facing or involves managing others then working from home fulltime may not be feasible. In this case other options need to be discussed.
  • If your role involves sitting at a computer all day with little engagement with other colleagues or external stakeholders then your request might be considered reasonable.
