I missed my court date. How do I find out if there is a warrant out for my arrest?

I was due in court last week for some corporate crime charges. I am really stressed out at the moment as they are really serious charges and I do not want to go to jail. I missed court because I slept in after being up late and I was not feeling very well. Now I am worried there is a warrant for my arrest.

  • It is important that you find out as soon as possible if a warrant was issued for your arrest.
    • You can call the court yourself; or
    • ask a lawyer to do this on your behalf.
  • The registry staff at the court should be able to tell you what the magistrate ordered and when your next court date is.
  • If a warrant was issued then you will need to hand yourself in to the police station as soon as possible. You should get some specific legal advice about the best time to do this and some advice about the charges you are facing.
