What happens if I miss the cut-off date for compensation?

I was the victim of crime 12 months ago but I only just found out I can apply for compensation. Am I too late?

  • Depending on which state or territory you are in victims of crime can lodge applications for compensation between two and three years from the date of the offence.
  • Exemptions apply for victims of child sexual assault who are permitted a longer time frame in which to report the crime.
  • Some states also allow extensions to the time limit rule in special circumstances.
