Can I claim compensation for loss of earnings?

I was the victim of an assault and suffered post-traumatic stress disorder as a result. I was not able to work for three months after the incident. Can I claim for the financial loss I suffered through not being able to work?

  • Yes. Victims can claim financial losses that stem from physical or mental harm.
  • The amount you can claim is subject to the caps placed on victims’ compensation schemes.
  • You will need to demonstrate that the PTSD you suffered was a direct result of the crime committed.
  • In some states or territories you may require a professional diagnosis of PTSD to demonstrate that you have suffered emotional harm.
