The police came to my door and told me I was being issued with summons. They told me that they know I have been driving a car without a licence. They gave me some papers but they didn’t arrest me. Have I been charged with something? I am in NSW and I am nearly 16.

- Yes. The police do not have to arrest you to charge you.
- All they need to do is issue you with a summons (court attendance notice) describing the charges against you and the date you will need to attend court.
- Because it is a traffic offence your case will be heard in the Local Court. The Children’s Court generally cannot hear traffic offence cases.
