A taxi hit my car but the driver refuses to pay. What can I do?

I had parked my car in a marked parking spot on the side of the road. As I was crossing the street I saw a taxi run into my car. I spoke to the driver and he refused to pay for the damage and drove off. I made a note of the licence number. What can I do?

  • If the taxi driver refuses to pay you can make a claim on the taxi operator’s insurance policy.
  • When making a claim remember to quote the licence number of the taxi and keep evidence of the damage to your car.
  • You should also report the matter to the police. It is an offence for a driver to leave the scene of an accident without exchanging details.
