Should I start paying for treatment now or wait until I receive compensation?

I tripped over a bucket that had been left lying around at my local butcher and I haven't broken anything but my back has been giving me problems ever since. The physiotherapist says that it's going to require frequent visits. It's expensive to keep going in for treatment. Can I just wait until the compensation is paid?

  • You should seek treatment immediately. There are several reasons for this.
  • Your health comes first. If you are in pain or are prevented from undertaking your normal daily activities you need to see a medical professional who can help.
  • Public place compensation claims can take anywhere from a few months to a few years to be finalised. In this time your condition can worsen and you will suffer unnecessarily if you do not seek out treatment.
  • You are also obliged to show the party you are claiming against that you have been doing all you can to rehabilitate yourself. If you fail to undertake reasonable steps to rehabilitate yourself and your condition worsens the person against whom you are claiming is not likely to be found responsible for the additional medical expenses.
