Can I claim compensation for short-term injuries?

I slipped and fell at my local supermarket 6 months ago and fractured my kneecap. It's pretty much fully healed and the doctor doesn't think I will need any ongoing treatment. I'd still like to claim back money for the cast and medical treatment I had to have at the time. Can I claim for short term injuries?

  • Yes. You can claim for short-term injuries. There are many kinds of injuries covered by public place claims.
  • Whether it is worthwhile for you to bring an action against the supermarket will depend on the nature and extent of your injury and the amount of compensation you are seeking.
  • If your injury was inexpensive then the costs of hiring a lawyer to act for you may outweigh the amount of compensation you are seeking.
  • That said many public liability lawyers work on a no-win no-fee basis. This means that they will only charge legal fees if your claim is successful. You can make an initial appointment to discuss whether the lawyer believes your claim for compensation is likely to succeed.
