How is land under a trust assessed?

Our family trust holds several pieces of land in Victoria as investments. What kind of taxes are we liable for?

  • All land held under a trust is subject to the surcharge rate of tax unless the trust is exempt. Usually family trusts and especially discretionary family trusts are not exempt from the surcharge rate.
