How do I know if a company is in liquidation?

A company I’ve been dealing with for a long time has been having some financial trouble lately and they’ve been late paying invoices. Now they owe me money and my calls are going through to voicemail. How can I find out if they are closing down and how I can get my outstanding invoices paid?

  • Notices relating to the appointment of external administrators such as liquidators, administrators and receivers are available on the Insolvency Notices Website which is maintained by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). You can find these notices at www.insolvencynotices.asic.gov.au.
  • Search the website by company name or ACN to find out whether a company has entered liquidation. No fee is payable to conduct this search.
  • You can also obtain information regarding a company’s status through a company search from the ASIC register at www.asic.gov.au. These searches contain information that is more detailed but require payment of a fee. Details are available on the ASIC website.
