Are there any exemptions or concessions for motor vehicle transfer and registration duty?

  • Yes. There are numerous exemptions and concessions which apply in NSW and include when a vehicle is:
    • awarded as part of a divorce settlement;
    • purchased by eligible veterans;
    • a caravan;
    • left to you in a will;
    • being transferred from interstate registration in your name when stamp duty has already been paid for that vehicle in another state or territory;
    • transferred between married or de facto couples from joint names to a single name; or
    • is property owned by a not for profit organisations involved in charitable, philanthropic, patriotic or welfare work.
