Who are the coroners?
- The relevant legislation in your jurisdiction sets out who can be appointed as a coroner. Generally judicial officers such as judges and magistrates can be appointed.
- In some places a lawyer who has practiced for a certain number of years may be appointed.
- Usually a State Coroner oversees and coordinates all coronial proceedings. They are assisted by Deputy Coroners.
